Adult & Youth Education

EVERYONE MAY PARTICIPATE

You (and your children) do not have to be members of Drayton in order to fully participate in any of our educational programs.

ADULT EDUCATION

Sunday morning adult education for 2010 – 11 features a class taught by Pastor Miller. The class begins at 9:00 a.m. and ends at 9:45 a.m. Each week the class reads passages from a book or other materials selected by the group or Pastor, and then engages in a discussion lead by the Pastor.

CHILDREN: SEPTEMBER - JUNE

Drayton was founded as a Sunday morning church school program, a focus that continues to this day. Most Sundays, Drayton offers church school classes for children in kindergarten through 4th grade. The K- 4 children actually begin their education in worship and are dismissed to their classes following a children’s sermon that precedes the main sermon. From a time perspective, the children are in class from about 10:20 a.m. to about 11:00 a.m. Education for Mid-Highs, grades 5 – 8, takes place before worship from 9:00 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. Classes for K – 8 are held every Sunday from September to June. However, there are no classes for K – 4 on Sundays in which communion is provided in worship (this happens about once a month, usually on the first Sunday of the month, and the goal is to allow the entire congregation to celebrate communion together).

The Sunday school program begins every year in early September and ends the following June.

YOUTH GROUPS

The Drayton Avenue Youth Fellowship Groups strive to expose students to Christian values. Senior Highs are made up of those in grades 9-12, and Mid-Highs include those in grades 6-8. Throughout the year, the groups experience a variety of community outreach projects, service to the church, and social activities, all with an emphasis on respect for self and others.

The Senior High group travels on a weeklong mission trip each year to a different state to give of themselves to neighbors in need. Activities on these trips may include any number of projects, such as serving the homeless and hungry, working with at-risk children, home repair for the less fortunate, or clean-up and beautification of neighborhoods. The list of possibilities is varied, but always engaging and often transformational for the participants. Each project is unique, but all bring unforgettable changes both to those who give and those who receive the gifts. Education for Mid-Highs and Senior Highs, grades 5-12, takes place before worship from 9:00 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. Classes for K-12 are held every Sunday from September to June. However, there are no classes for K – 4 on Sundays in which communion is provided in worship (this happens about once a month, usually on the first Sunday of the month).
